So, their last visit turned out to be cut short.[break]
No big deal, really.[break][break]

Especially not when work and a number of other, unplanned circumstances snuck into his life at every beck and turn (there was still a sense of conflict that he felt towards his homeland, even then). If there was anything he learned how to do, though, it was to roll with the punches— including the ones that involved him needing to take the little ones out for walks every so often.[break][break]

It was a bit annoying in the past, sure— but in light of recent events, he couldn’t help but feel just a bit more willing to indulge them. Call it the remnants of a former life.[break][break]

So he waited around after entering the area, watching his Pokemon skitter from afar as they, once again, set off to explore and befriend the local wildlife.[break][break]

And just like always, they made quick work of finding new friends relatively quickly.[break][break]

He looked across the clearing for a moment as the sounds of chirping and other chattering caught his ears, his expression unwavering for the most part as he leaned over to glimpse past a tree some ways off. There seemed to be small Wishiwashi poking out from one of the nearby ponds to greet his own group of troublemakers.[break][break]

A faint snicker passed his lips, coupled fittingly by the gentlest of smirks before he sighed and began walking towards another part of the zone.[break][break]

Not too long into his trip the other way, though, there was a glimpse of monochromatic hues that caught his eye. It darted behind a nearby shrub as he brought himself to a stop, but after just a couple of seconds of watching where it disappeared, the sight of a familiar, yet differently colored Zigzagoon caught his eye.[break][break]

They made eye contact for a while before it decided it was interested enough to pad on over.[break][break]

"...Whaddaya want, eh?" he murmured, still eying it as it stopped at his feet.[break][break]

It merely yipped.[break][break]

"I ain't a mind reader, y'know."[break][break]

Another yip.[break][break]

He stared for a while more before sighing and dropping one of the Safari Balls he'd been given onto his head without much of a second thought.[break][break]

He latched the newly-caught Zigzagoon atop one of the notches of his belt before continuing along.[break][break]

Like before, he breathed lowly and calmly to himself while striding throughout the various paths and greeneries that the Safari Zone had to offer to all of its visitors and patrons. Eventually, he’d found his way up the steps leading to a small elevation from the grasses below; an earthier, rubble-ridden expanse that stretched out for a fair distance before seemingly leading into other zones.[break][break]

He watched on from the vantage the place gave him, though not without still peering out towards his own Pokemon as they continued to enjoy their stay in the distance.[break][break]

Before long, a Ledyba seemed to fly from the greeneries afar, no longer content with watching from a distance and opting to observe his Pokemon up closer. The Rocket watched as the bug approached them, his eyes narrowing slightly with a hand hovering above their own, respective Pokeballs in a preemptive readiness to recall them in the event that they chose rowdier routes of greeting.[break][break]

Though it was only held for a short time, he found a baited breath leaving his lips upon seeing his own Pokemon continue to be civil.[break][break]

He leaned back onto the rock he'd sat upon once more, breathing another sigh as he, instead, drew a hand into one of his pockets. Before long, they found purchase against a box, and—after feeling it out—had flicked it open to reveal a small array of unlit smokes.[break][break]

He picked one out before pulling his lighter out.[break][break]

(Hope they ain't too strict about smoking here.)

...Or so he would've thought if he hadn't been so rudely interrupted.[break][break]

He'd barely been able to spark a flame ablaze before a rogue trickle of electricity shot into his fingers from below, prompting a brief groan of pain and surprise, alike, to escape his lips. It rode the course of his hand before trailing into his forearm, his muscles tensing and his form stumbling before the sensation faded amidst a lingering static.[break][break]

He dropped his lighter in the process, though it proved to be the least of his worries as his eyes searched for the source of the spark.[break][break]

Not that he had to look too long or hard, though— not as the form of a round, yellow creature stood just a few feet away. Staring. Why did it send a jolt his way? He hadn't known, and for the most part, he didn't care. ...There was something about the look in its eyes that resonated with him, though. Smug. Confident.[break][break]

Honestly, his normal instinct would've been to walk up it and punt it across the clearing in defiance and retribution, alike, but for whatever rhyme or reason, he eventually settled with breathing a sigh and tossing another Safari Ball its way before finally crouching down to retrieve his lighter.[break][break]

Naturally, he pocketed the Safari Ball once it lulled into dormancy.[break][break]

With a gentle click, he set it into one of the slots of his belt, he finally shifted his attention across the ground to search for his lighter once more. It came into view before long, and with a soft groan as he reached across the dirt, he took it between his fingers, dusting the specks of grime from its form. He began to turn around as he settled his thumb upon the switch, though before he could spark it a second time, he found himself staring with another creature, that time around.[break][break]

It stood upon the rock he sat on prior, and just like the Elekid, seemed to find enough interest in him to simply stare. He stared back. It stared more.[break][break]

Before long, and after some thought, he opted to toss his remaining Safari Ball at it.[break][break]
